What Have We Learnt From HBT Interferometry at The SPS?

Abstract: I will describe the recent attempts to reconstruct from a combined analysis of spectra and HBT correlations the space-time geometry and dynamics of the reaction zone at the point of hadronic freeze-out. The resulting quantitative information about the final state of the heavy ion collision can be used to extrapolate backwards in time and thereby obtain new constraints on the initial stages of the collision.
