What have I missed about Parelli?
I don’t like Parelli. I think that it is a very poor way to teach your horse anything. The man has very poor equitation and horsemanship, and he overcharges for absolutely everything just because it comes from his line. There is a girl at our barn who is huge into Parelli. She has used nothing but Parelli since her horse was 6 months old, and he is now 7. This horse is one of the most disrespectful horses that I have ever run across. He charges gates, bites people, tries to attack other horses, has no sense of personal space, drags you when you lead him, is very crazy about his stall, constantly tries to pick things up and chew them, etc. The list could literally go on for about another paragraph. The reason the horse is like this is because of the whole “let’s be friends” thing. This girl has no control over her horse because he was never taught to respect people. He thinks of all people like other horses, who he can play with and try to assert dominance over. To top it off, this hors
There are a lot of people who don’t like Parelli….usually not because of the training methods, but for some other reason. And I’m not pointing fingers, but you will hear some word twisting as well. For instance…he doesn’t jump tiny foals over fences. I’ve seen him jump a foal over a small log or something, not a fence or a real jump. And I would guess the foals to all be over 6 months old because they are always away from their mothers when this is shown. As for equitation, they have their own ideas about it and riding in a way that is comfy to the horse and not in the way you would learn in a lesson. (Of course the pictures you see of his equitation posted on here are going to be the worst photo you could find because most people here don’t like Parelli.) They do not disprove of helmets, but do not endorse them either. I don’t agree with that really, but I do agree that you can’t place all your faith in a helmet. Some people don’t like him because his methods are “unoriginal.” He
