william1941 Teacher Community / Jr. College Expert $(document).ready(function() { $(‘a.toggle_expert_titles’).click(function() { $(‘#show_expert_titles’).toggle(); return false; }); }); The actions of humans have contributed directly as well as indirectly to a destruction of temperate wood lands on a large scale. They have been extensively cut down to create farm land. Woodlands are also destroyed while farmland is acquired using the slash and burn technique which damages the trees extensively and kills all the animals which live in the areas that have been set on fire. Due to this, in Australia just 3% of the natural temperate woodlands remain. Also, air pollution, smog, change in climate and degradation of the soil are among the other causes for the decline in temperate woodlands. In Europe just 36% of temperate woodlands remain healthy now. Sources: http://encyclopedia.farlex.com/Temperate+Woodland http://wwf.panda.org/who_we_are/wwf_offices/australia/pro…
