What have been the results of recent Canadian Paralympic Teams?
In Athens at the Paralympic Summer Games in 2004, Canada was represented by 143 athletes in 13 sports: athletics, boccia, cycling, equestrian, goalball, judo, powerlifting, sailing, shooting, swimming, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby and wheelchair tennis. Canada equaled our best ever performance by finishing 3rd overall in the nations medal standing, earning a total of 72 medals (28 gold, 19 silver, 25 bronze). At the 2006 Torino Paralympic Winter Games, Canada was represented by 33 athletes in 5 sports: alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, sledge hockey and wheelchair curling. Canada again matched our best overall finish, placing 6th in the nations medal standing while earning a total of 13 medals (5 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze). Canada also swept the team sport gold medals in Torino, finishing on top of the podium in both sledge hockey and wheelchair curling.
