What have been the biggest challenges in building Desert Combat?

Frank DeLise: I would say, helicopter physics, balance and learning the Battlefield scripting system. Helicopter physics have been done over and over to get it right, now we think we have something that requires practice, but once you get going you can become a master. Balance will continually be a challenge until DC is complete, but at least it’s a fun challenge. IGN: Would you say the Battlefield 1942 engine has been relatively easy to work with? Frank DeLise: Yes, very. We found it to be one of the most powerful engines out there. The scripting language allows you to do an incredible amount of stuff without any C coding. The Battlefield engine also supports land, sea and air vehicle directly. So you can easily make boat racing games to space games all in the same engine. IGN: Are there other titles or mods that were particular inspirations to you? Frank DeLise: Battlefield 1942 was our main source of inspiration as well as Halo, Flashpoint, and for some aspects even Counter Strike.
