What have American academics been saying about Christian Patriots?
Well, the 3 books Ive read about the militias and Christian Patriots are as follows: • Abanes, Richard : American Militias: Rebellion, Racism & Religion (Illinois, InterVarsity Press: 1996). • Neiwert, David A., In Gods Country: The Patriot Movement and the Pacific Northwest (Pullman, Washington, Washington State University: 1999). • Stern, Kenneth S.: A Force Upon the Plain: The American Militia Movement and the Politics of Hate (New York, Simon & Schuster: 1996). At the risk of oversimplifying things, they basically argue that the militias and Christian Patriots are fronts for racists and extremists, and that they believe in Jewish conspiracy theories. They also argue that the religion known as Christian Identity is very influential in Christian Patriotism. Well, that may be the case with one or two organisations, but I dont think it holds for the vast majority of ordinary angry American Christians.
