What has United Utilities done about the risk from Cryptosporidium?

0

We have carried out a risk assessment at all water treatment works to determine whether there was a risk of Cryptosporidium entering the water supply. At sites deemed to be at risk, continuous monitoring equipment was installed and a major programme of upgrading treatment works was completed in March 2005. In addition to improving water treatment, United Utilities also has a comprehensive management plan for each of its catchments. Where possible actions have been taken to reduce the likelihood of oocysts entering the raw water sources. In cases where oocysts are detected in water supplies, and where the local health protection unit considers it appropriate, the public may be advised to boil their water as a precaution before drinking.
