What has “Umbanda” (Afro-Brazilian sect) got to do with the Doctrine?
In 1988, some from people from this religion joined the Doctrine, and along with them came their respective religious influences. Godfather Sebastião (Master Irineu’s follower, Doctrine’s Leader and responsible for the Doctrine’s expansion) explained that the Doctrine has always been in continuous evolution, incorporating new knowledge, and with the Umbanda, due to its origins of worship to “Orixás” (African divinities) and their mystical syncretism, some fundamental values could be forgotten, since they are not in line with what the Doctrine has for the Holy Mother.
