What has the international response been so far, especially considering the strong response of the American people to the tsunami?
A The International Committee of the Red Cross is assisting the American Red Cross by providing its Family Links Registry Web site to help reunite loved ones separated by the hurricane. The international response has actually been very heartwarming- particularly given the fact that the magnitude of the devastation is still unfolding. Donations large and small have either been sent or promised from foreign Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies such as Australia ($10 million), India ($5 million), China ($100,000), and even Sri Lanka ($25,000). More than 80 technical experts from nearly a dozen countries are already either in the U.S. or are on their way with many more National Societies offering to send people as soon as we identify a need for their help. Mexico and Canada have played a particularly large role as have many European Red Cross societies.
