What has the First Step achieved?
The Living Murray has made significant progress since 2004, including: • acquiring a significant portfolio of water entitlements for environmental use • developing a comprehensive Environmental Watering Plan that guides the use of the water portfolio • forging new partnerships between government and farming and agricultural industries — working together to reduce water use and to use water savings to achieve environmental objectives • completing detailed feasibility assessments and designs on a package of environmental works that will improve the delivery of environmental water; constructing minor regulators to help control the flow of water over the floodplain; and constructing approximately half of the fishways required under the Sea to Hume fishway program to facilitate fish passage both in the River Murray and at the icon sites • gaining valuable experience in delivering environmental water, especially under drought conditions • developing a systematic monitoring approach that will
