What has the federal government done to support child care spaces?

Budget 2007 allocates a $250-million transfer per year to the provinces and territories, beginning this year, to support the creation of child care spaces. This transfer will ensure that the provinces and territories have the flexibility they need to support their families. In addition, Budget 2007 introduced a 25-per cent investment tax credit for businesses that create new child care spaces in the workplace. They will get up to $10,000 per space created. All told, federal transfers to the provinces and territories in support of families with children total $1.1 billion this year and will grow by 3 per cent annually to almost $1.3 billion by 2013–2014.
