What has the British Heart Foundation Revealed About the Effects of Smoking?
In 1967 – 1970, one particular study by The British Heart Foundation was set up in the UK and the results were published in The British Medical Journal. It followed more than 19,000 civil servants between the ages of 49 – 60 and tracked what gradually happened to them over the past 38 years. The results were….. stop smoking! At the beginning of the study, everybody involved in the research underwent a series of tests. They were measured, weighed, their blood pressure levels were read, lung capacity was checked, cholesterol and blood sugar levels were read and they all completed a questionnaire about their past medical history.
