What has research shown about Kangaroo Care?
A recent study of Kangaroo Care indicates that mothers feel confident about caring for their babies sooner, and they feel closer to their babies. Two-thirds of the infants were successfully breast-feeding when they left the hospital. Research also shows that infants and their mothers appear to be in “thermal harmony” during Kangaroo Care, which means that the mother’s temperature rises if the infant’s is low. Babies have enough oxygen and maintain stable temperatures, and infants have fewer episodes of periodic breathing and apnea.
