What has prevented the manufacture of tubes— particularly larger sized tubes—by injection moulding?
For many years numerous companies – including some of the world’s major consumer-product producers, packaging companies and tooling manufacturers – have tried unsuccessfully to develop commercially acceptable injection mould tubes. The key reason for their failure to produce commercially useful injection moulded tubes larger than small (±10ml) single-dose cylindrical tubes was polymer failure: any tubes they managed to mould were very susceptible to environmental stress cracking (ESCR) and consequently suffered stress crack failure once they are filled with product and sealed. Zestron’s technology eliminates this stress cracking problem, thereby enabling the production of commercially useful and valuable injection moulded tubes.
