What has NATO contributed to countering piracy?
A – NATO has contributed Standing NATO Maritime Groups (SNMG) to the counter-piracy effort off Somalia through Operation ALLIED PROVIDER (SNMG2 October – December 2008) and Operation ALLIED PROTECTOR (SNMG1 April – July 2009 and SNMG2 from July 2009). The UK has supports an enhanced role for NATO in counter-piracy operations off the Horn of Africa.
