What Has John Prescott got on Tony Blair?
He has a job: Deputy Prime Minister. He might not have a spending Department of Government but he chairs a whole number of Cabinet Committees in which other Ministers come together to try and co-ordinate policy and resolve disputes between them. He is not the first person, nor will he be the last, to collect a particular type of car (whether he can drive them or not). Of course he will get a pension; he has paid into a pension scheme out of his salary I would suspect for nearly 60 years; certainly as an MP, and I would imagine as a Merchant Seaman (I know my father did, and he was older than Prescott). To suggest he has something on Tony Blair is groundless. In fact he has damaged his own credibility amongst his old supporters by remaining so loyal to Blair. Better that he followed Robin Cook’s example and resigned over the Iraq war, which he disagreed with.
