What has IGN64 heard about Dolphins controller?
The final design of Dolphin’s controller is locked away in secrecy, but IGN64 did manage to put together a few mock-ups based on the information we’ve heard from various development groups. Before reading any further please read the full controller saga here. As you can see the controller went through a few transformations as information was received. Well, believe it or not, there has been yet another change to the controller. Originally developers told IGN64 there was absolutely no D-Pad planned for the controller ( Nintendo’s controller sketches showed only two analog sticks — no pad). Shortly after IGN64 ran a poll and reader reception was very negative. Many readers reacted bitterly to the news that they might have to play their favorite fighting games without a D-Pad. Thankfully, Nintendo must have reconsidered its initial design, most likely due to focus group testing, as numerous developers have told us that the latest design now features a D-Pad added onto the controller.
