What has happened to the vengeful God?

For me the Old and the New testament are nothing but books to keep you on the less, the Old Testament was to violent so they make a New Testament. But for me Bible means nothing. Why because there is a Creator, but calling a book Holly a water Holly a building Holly is out of place.I mean i have nothing against no one but,i will not let know one tell me what to believe.Eye for an eye so if somebody breaks my legs i can break his see: God first is a Vengeance, God,than a savior, than is the men that sent you to hell than there is Heaven, than there is many thinks.

You have to consider how long ago the New Testament was written. People back then didnt interpret texts the way we do today. A lot of people wrote using stories with morals, unlike today where things are a lot more literal. The idea of God being vengeful was just used to show how God could get upset or angry if we do not do as he wishes. I dont think the Old Testament stories were ever intended to show God as violent. By personifying him, it allowed the lessons of the Old Testament to be simplified. That is why Jesus then came along to reform Judaism. Because, like today, religion had become full of misinterpretations and misunderstandings.

Gods vengeance was always just. It was deserved punishment for sin, and also as examples of what would happen if people went against His laws, or His people. Jesus came to put an end to the old laws. His death paid the price for all our sins, so God no longer has to mete out vengeance as He did under the Law of the old testament. But Gods judgement will be played out when Jesus returns, and He will not be any softer, He does not change. Punishment is now given out by our courts of law which endeavour to make the punishment fit the crime. They do not seem to get it right at times IMO.

He must still be there, since god is unchanging according to the bible. If he’s nicer now, then he changed – in which case the bible is wrong and you can throw it all out. So if the bible is right, he’s still a dick.

God never changes, but our concept of Him does. An eye for an eye works if you are willing to go to prison.
