On the 1st August 2008 authentication arrangements for access to online resources within the UK higher education sector changed. The main changes are: • existing Athens personal accounts will continue to work for 3 years, but you are encouraged to use Shibboleth • no new Athens personal accounts will be issued • departmental Athens accounts (eg. ukchis/foot7ball) are no longer necessary – use Shibboleth instead • to use Shibboleth you will normally need to select University of Kent from a drop down list and then simply enter your Kent IT account username and password when you see Federated Access, UK Federation or Shibboleth. In some instances, Shibboleth already knows you are at Kent and you just enter your University of Kent username/password. There are no changes if you access resources through links on the Library pages without using Athens. More information on these changes is available.
