What has happened to art education over the past fifty years?
I have been in the field of education for thirteen years. My career has taken me from inner city public schools in New York City to the Los Alamos public schools in NM. I have a duel license, as an elementary classroom teacher and a fine and visual arts teacher. In my 13 years I have spent eight as an art teacher. The most important change I have seen in art education, during my career, is Max Coll’s Fine Arts Education Act. This bill funds art education in elementary schools throughout the state of NM. This funding is built directly into the state funding formula. It has given some school districts the opportunity to hire art, music, dance and theater teachers for the first time, as well as giving other school districts the opportunity to hire artist-in-residence programs, bring in dance and theater performances, take classes on trips to museums and performances, and enhance their art programs already in place. 5) In this age of No Child Left Behind, art education has apparently been
