What has been the process of inter-governmental negotiations on the MDG Summit Outcome Document?
After a series of General Assembly interactive sessions, UN Member States met at the end of April 2010 to discuss the nature, structure, and message of the MDG Summit Outcome Document. On that basis, the negotiations’ co-facilitators (the Ambassadors of Denmark and Senegal to the United Nations) issued a “draft structure” for the Outcome Document in early May. The first part would emphasize the importance of the MDG Summit in September, and would contain an assessment of MDG progress to date. The second part, on the way forward, would identify concrete strategies and targeted actions to be taken in order to facilitate and accelerate progress on the MDGs.
