What has been the impact of recycling on the waste to energy plants market?
We believe in and are very much in favor of the waste treatment hierarchy, which states that first of all try not to produce waste, then reuse it, then recycle it, then recover it and as the least preferred option, dispose the waste. However, even in countries like Germany, where waste reduction and recycling programs are in place for many years and quite successfully though, more than 24 million tons of residual municipal solid waste remains each year. This is ample opportunity for energy from waste plants. Statistics clearly show that waste incineration does not hinder recycling; countries with high recycling rates, for example, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, also have high rates of energy from waste. Where do you see Martin five years from now? I think that five years from now, we might be pretty much where we are right now.
