What has been the assessment process for the Jabiluka project so far?
The Jabiluka project was first assessed by the Commonwealth through an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) which received approval in 1982. A subsequent EIS for the Ranger Mill Alternative (RMA) was approved in 1997 by the Commonwealth Minister for the Environment with 75 conditions. In 1998, a Public Environment Report (PER) was undertaken for the Jabiluka Mill Alternative (JMA) which was approved with 17 conditions. Following this environmental assessment process, the Minister for Resources and Energy converted these conditions into requirements which must be complied with for the mine to proceed.
