What has been done to inform tax agents about the use of external collection agencies by the Tax Office?
Our first public announcement was a media release (11 October 2007) about the procurement of the services of these agencies, as well as our intention to commence referring debt for collection activities in late 2007. Since then it has been discussed in various speeches by the Commissioner. It has also been subject to widespread media attention. We also published a number of articles in The Tax Agent magazine to inform tax agents about our use of the agencies and likely impacts on their work.
