What hardware is supported by Solaris for Intel?
Solaris x86 is the version that runs on Intel-based PCs and servers. Requirements vary to release, but generally a Pentium (586-class) processor or better from Intel or AMD, a PCI bus, 128 MB of memory, and 12 GB Disk. Many multi-processor boards and multi-processor cores are supported. You must have a CD-ROM drive or access to NFS or a boot server over the network to install. If you’re using GNOME and a web browser or have heavy database access, your system should be more up-to-date than the above–say 256 MB of memory, 8 GB Disk, and a recent (fast) processor. Add Java Enterprise System (not needed except for servers), for a full install takes about 11GB. Add in swap and free space, so you should have, say, a 10 or 20 GB disk or larger.
