What hard drives are required?
DV has a data rate of 3.6 MB/sec. This means that in order to capture DV onto a hard drive in real-time the hard drive must be able to sustain at least 6 to 9 MB/s minimum. Note that peak data rate such as the 160 or 320 MB/s you hear about has nothing to do with sustained data rate. Our systems have lead the way for both data rate and size. We have introduced many industry firsts in the storage area. Even our low-end systems today have drives that will sustain over 20 MB/s. We have also lead the industry in Laptop storage data rates. Our high-end laptops were the first in the industry to have Dual Raided disks. These are capable of over 40 MB/s. This is a real break through in giving the Laptop the true feel of a Desktop editing system.
