What happens with calves born on the stock route?
Calves born while their mothers are on a stock route should be tagged with an orange post-breeder tag when they return to their home property. Calves born en route and sold through a saleyard must be tagged with a saleyard post-breeder tag. Calves born en route and sold by private sale, should be tagged with the new owner´s post-breeder tag. Any cattle sold by private sale will also have to be transferred in the NLIS database from the stock route property identification code (PIC) to the new PIC. It is the responsibility of the person in charge of the cattle to ensure transfers are carried out. Third party service providers may be utilised. The following information is required to update the NLIS database: • the number of stock • the ´from´ PIC • the ´to´ PIC • the date of the movement • the waybill number the animals are travelling on.
