PV systems require a small amount of electricity to operate and do not store power, so they do not prevent you from a power outage. However, an emergency battery backup system is available and will provide enough power if the electric company has a brownout (a few seconds loss of power) or a blackout (longer than a few minutes). With a backup system, there is a smooth turn over to battery power and a brownout may go completely unnoticed.
