What happens when someone is sectioned?

He will have a definite period, say 28 days in a psychiatric ward. Not a big issue really. Just phone the ward, and ask about visiting. You normally can visit twice a day, and sit in the lounge with your friend and the others. You can take clothes, ciggies, toiletries etc. Just check with the staff if they are imposing any sanctions, but usually they are pleased to have friends of the patient, as it helps to maintain a semblance of normal life. I have been sectioned, and it was nothing. Just meant I couldn’t leave the Ward without permission, but I was allowed out, came home alone to stay overnight and for weekends, etc. It is about watching over someone at risk of suicide, which I most certainly was. It is not a punishment, nor anything to be ashamed of. Visit your friend. He is feeling very lost and helpless just now.
