What happens when someone is admitted to Western State Hospital?
At the time of admission, patients’ clothing and personal items will be checked and listed. Valuables are deposited in the cashier’s office for safe-keeping. Since storage space is limited, patients are encouraged to keep only enough clothing for one week. Laundry facilities are available. Only medication prescribed by a physician will be used in the hospital. Patients are allowed to keep a reasonable amount of spending money. Money is deposited in an account with the hospital. Withdrawals are made by notifying the designated staff member on the unit. Personal checks can be deposited in a patient account.
