What happens when Meade releases a new version of the Autostar software?
Meade generally releases a new version (a ROM file) every 6 months or so. You don’t necessarily need to update your Autostar but many people prefer to use the latest ROM, which often has some minor improvements. Each new ROM requires a new patch file for StarPatch (since each ROM is different). It usually takes 1-2 weeks to create a patch file once Meade releases a new version. Registered users will be notified by e-mail when an update is available. You can also use the “File: Get Updates” menu to ask StarPatch to check for and download the latest patch and ROM files. StarGPS-NX does not require you to update the Autostar software unless you have a version with known Meade bugs (see Note #1).
