What happens when I have L2 multiplier and answer a question where I am L3?
If you use a L1 or L2 superpower on a topic where you have L3, L4, or above, you get the double points. The multiplier works for any topic you have achieved level X in, where X is 1 or 2. You cannot use your L2 multiplier on questions where you have not achieved L2 status so it is sometimes worth having both. Both of the multipliers give you the same amount of gold. The difference between L2 and L1 is the time that they are active, and the time you can use them again. A L1 multiplier is good for 30 minutes out of 24 hours. A L2 multiplier is good for 60 minutes out of 12 hours. If and when they create a L3 multiplier, it will probably be a variation on that theme.
When you use the L2 coin multiplier for an eligible question, your final coin will be doubled. It means that if you normally get like 13 coins you will get 26 coins when using a multiplier. Let me talk about the example you asked about. Assume you answer a question that the highest topic that you have for that question is an L3 topic. Assume you get 4 stars for that and no BA and no widgets. When you use your coin multiplier your final coin would be: (5+10)*2=30. Five coins for 4 stars, ten coins for L3 and the total is multiplied by 2. That applies to the quest gold you earn. The experience point that you earn is the same as usual. It means that in the above example you earn 5 experience points no matter if you use a multiplier or not! Sources: using L1 & L2 multipliers every day!!
You get the superpowers applied… Up as high as you get levels. On my level 4 topics, with the multiplier on, I can get up to 82 points for an answer! Woohoo! On my askville wish-list… I’d like for level 3 or 4 superpowers, you could have the option of turning on your multiplier at any time you wanted, for your 2.5 hours a day, instead of having that time-gap in between. Or that you could use your multiplier in half-an-hour sessions, anytime you wanted. Sources: Personal askville experience and a busy multiplier.
You do, however, receive bonus QG, as stated in Askville’s FAQs: You can…earn bonus Quest gold based on what level you have reached in a topic. The following table lists the amount of bonus gold you can earn based on the level you have achieved in a topic: bonus Level gold payout 0 0 1 1 2 5 3 10 4 20 5 40 6 75 You can only earn bonus Quest Gold for answers that had final ratings of 3.5 stars or more. For example, if you answered a question in a topic (e.g. music) where you have earned enough experience points to be level 5 in that topic and you received a final rating score of 4 stars, you will earn 40 bonus gold on top of your normal Quest Gold payout for that answer. Below is a summary of your Quest Gold payout in this example: Level 5 user in topic “music” 5 Stars Answer = 10 Quest Gold + 40 bonus Gold = 50 Quest Gold 4 Stars Answer = 5 Quest Gold + 40 bonus Gold = 45 Quest Gold 3 Stars
…Is only in the time allowed for the superpower to be active. Either way, your points are doubled. And the L1 multiplier also applies to L2 and L3 topics for me also. So really, all you are buying with the L2 multiplier is the ability to work on L2 and higher topics for an hour, instead of half an hour at L1.
