What Happens When an Ovarian Cyst Burst?
Bursting is the worst case scenario for an ovarian cyst. Pain, often extreme, is felt around the abdomen when cyst contents come in contact with the peritoneum, a serous membrane that lines the inner abdominal cavity. The peritoneum is easily inflamed and irritated. There could be a release of blood greater than a normal menstruation cycle. A doctor should be consulted immediately.
