What happens when a piano is not tuned regularly?
If a piano has settled to a lower pitch due to infrequent tuning, it cannot simply be fine-tuned like a piano that receives regular service. To readjust and evenly redistribute the thousands of pounds of tension on the strings, at least one “pitch” raise tuning is required before a fine tuning can be attempted. The pitch raising process requires more time, and therefore costs more.
