What happens to varicose veins without treatment?
For most individuals, varicose veins slowly increase in size with time. This is due to progressive stretching of the thin vein walls in response to elevated pressure. The dilated blood-filled veins can cause pain, itching, or a feeling of heaviness in the legs, particularly when standing. Varicose veins do not spontaneously resolve without treatment.
