This gas, commonly referred to as landfill gas (LFG), is currently collected by a series of wells drilled into buried garbage and transmitted to a flaring station where it is burned off. Plans are underway to develop a project to use the fuel for a series of electricity producing generators. The electricity produced by these generators would be sold back to one of several statewide power brokerage companies or municipalities for resale to the general public.
