The inventoried roadless areas (IRAs) will be managed according to the Forest Plan direction (see land use zone map, Plan, Part 2), as modified by the Regional Forester’s commitment relative to road construction in IRAs, together with laws and all other overarching management direction (see Plan, Part 3, Appendix A). The new plans require that motorized use be limited to designated forest system roads and trails, and on the Cleveland and Angeles National Forests, in designated OHV areas as well. The inventoried roadless area inventory map (see IRA map, Plan, Part 2) was updated during the plan revision to reflect plan decisions such as recommendations for wilderness and actual road status. In most cases, the land use zones reflect the actual condition of the inventoried roadless areas. Under the new Forest Plans, these roadless areas will be managed to retain their undeveloped landscape character.
