What happens to stray or missing cattle?
If cattle with NLIS devices stray onto your land and you are able to read the NLIS ID number, you may contact your local stock inspector with this information and they will request a search to establish the last property where the animal was registered to. If the cattle belong to adjoining neighbours they can be returned without notifying the database. As long as the cattle return within 48 hours, there is no need to update the NLIS database or tag cattle that visit neighbouring properties.
