WHAT HAPPENS TO SOMEBODY WHO IS TAKEN TO THE NEWPORT BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT, UNDER ARREST?
They will be “booked in” at this police station. By this we mean that detailed information is taken about them and they are formally charged with their alleged crime. The Newport Beach Police also conduct a background check to see if the arrestee has any priors — outstanding warrants or a history of committing other crimes. Finger prints and photos are then taken and the arrestee must hand over their personal items, including clothing to the jailor. These things will be returned to them if they are bailed out.
