What happens to leaf and yard waste after it is picked up?
Leaf and yard waste is processed in long narrow piles called ‘windrows’. Windrows are ‘active’ piles that are turned on a regular basis to break down the material. This produces a rich soil-like product called ‘humus’ over time. Can I get some compost? The City hosts compost giveaways each year. Check this website and / or your local newspaper for details.
