What happens to a cell when laced in hypotonic, hypertonic, or isotonic solution?
HYPERTONIC: a solutiot hat has a higher solute concentration than the cell – water moves out of the cell – ANIMAL CELLS will shrivel in a hypertonic solution – PLANT CELLS, the plasma membrane will pull away from the cell wall HYPOTONIC: the solute concentration is lower than that of the cell -water must move into the cell – ANIMAL CELLS will expand and in some cases rupture – PLANT CELLS will expand and increase the pressure against the cell wall, the cell will become rigid ISOTONIC: the solute concentration is equal to that of the cell. – there will be constant equal movement in and out of the cell – ANIMAL CELLS will remain the same – PLANT CELLS, the pressure will slowly decrease between the plasma membrane and the cell wall I HOPE THIS HELPS!!! GOOD LUCK!
