What happens in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy?
CBT can be done on a 1-2-1 basis or sometimes in a group setting and generally involves getting you to understand your current thoughts. From there you’re usually challenged to change your thought patterns and given tools and exercises to use. CBT has been very successful for many people and in the prefered choice of therapy for GP’s. Hypnotherapy is not CBT, although the hypnotherapist may incorporate some of the basic CBT techniques into the session. As a hypnotherapist myself for many years, I’ve seen clients where CBT has for them not been successful (we’re all unique!) and where clients didn’t want to use to techniques to control their thoughts but instead through hypnosis understand where the thoughts originate from and provide a solution at that level. Go ahead with the CBT – but know that if you decide it’s not for you then consider a hypnotherapist.
