The people of the winning Contrada take the Drappellone (the Palio banner) to the church of S. Maria in Provenzano (in July) or to the cathedral (in August) in order to give thanks to the Madonna; afterwards they take it into their own Contrada and then all around the town, accompanied by songs, drums and flags.
