What happens if there is no commercially available verified control strategy for a particular engine and vehicle combination?
There are two types of extensions that may be granted in such cases. One is a blanket extension granted by ARB’s Executive Officer when there is a large group or class of engines for which there is no verified control strategy. However, there are time limits on such extensions, after which the owner must apply one of the other BACT options. You also must apply diesel control strategies to all applicable engines before you apply for any extensions. As per the following: Compliance Extensions Based on No-Verified Control Strategy – Blanket Exemption Group 1 (1988 -2002) The EO will issue a blanket extension annually by March 1 each year through 2007, after which the owner must comply by December 31, 2008. Group 2a (1960- 1987) Fleet of 15 or more vehicles The EO will issue a blanket extension annually by March 1 each year through 2008, after which the owner must comply by December 31, 2
