What happens if the student says he or she did not do anything wrong?
There are three possible outcomes: • (1) The evidence indicates that the student did not, in fact do anything wrong. The student’s denial of the accusation, along with the response to the concerns and explanation for the questionable behavior or work, including any supporting evidence provided by the student, is communicated to the reporting party. If the reporting party and SJA are convinced that no violation occurred on the basis of the student’s account of what happened, the case is closed. • (2) There is conflicting evidence, but the evidence supporting the report is determined to be insufficient given the information provided by the student. After reviewing the student’s explanation and evidence, the reporting party and SJA may not be convinced of the student’s innocence, but may feel that, in light of the student’s explanation, the evidence supporting the report is not strong.
