They are SOMETIMES trained with jackrabbits (even though it is illegal and banned by the National Greyhound Assn.) and yes they sometimes have a kitty and squirrel killing problem. Now to answer the actual question…IF the dogs catch the arm, then it is because of an electrical malfunction. The arm is ran by a human and doesn’t get “set” to a specific speed. If the arm fails to collapse at the finish, the dogs usually try to chew on it but they do wear muzzles so they mostly just beat at it with their muzzles. When the race is over the electricity is killed to prevent the dogs from getting electrocuted. If a dog jums a rail and tries to attack the arm as it goes by they will most likey be electrocuted.
