What happens if the high school loses its accreditation?
A loss of accreditation impacts the school’s reputation in the eyes of colleges and universities. It is important to note that schools lose accreditation for significant weaknesses in their academic programs as well as in their physical plant. While BHS is on warning status because of our facility only, our loss of accreditation would likely be interpreted by colleges as an reflection on our school overall. This would have an unacceptably negative impact on our students’ college candidacies. As well, where Bedford’s schools have been showcased in Boston Magazine and are generally highly reputed, a loss of accreditation would significantly impact the school system’s reputation in the eyes of prospective newcomers to the town.
