What happens if someone is charged with animal cruelty?
MCAC has a 100% conviction record. That means, that any case we bring to court, has resulted in guilty convictions for the offenders. Realize though, that all animal cruelty crimes, except for dog fighting, are misdemeanors, and do not usually involve jail time. A second conviction for an animal cruelty charge is a felony. For the most egregious offenses, we complete an investigation report, and submit photographs, vet reports, shelter reports and witness statements to the Monroe County, TN Sheriff. They determine whether to submit the case to the District Attorney for prosecution.
