What happens if parents with two kids divorce?
There are only two ways siblings are ever separated. One is if they are old enough to choose, and want to live with different parents (such as a son might want to live with his father, and a daughter might choose her mother). The second is if they are too young too have a say, the parents may choose to divide them, but that is rare. Children are not typically divided like other marital assets. It is considered harmful to break them up. I don’t think there is an age set in stone where you can choose, but you have to be old enough to understand what you are doing and why. Wanting to live with Dad because he’s more fun isn’t a good reason. Wanting to stay with your mother because you’re more closely bonded with her, or she is keeping the house you live in, so you wouldn’t have to move to a new neighborhood and change schools, etc. are good reasons. Sorry you are having to go through this. Good luck!
