What happens if night nurses quit? Do the “permanent shift” changes mean that the hospital could make all of us who are currently permanent day shift become day-night rotators?
No. The Collective Bargaining Agreement says, and will continue to say, at Section 11.3(c)(i) “Nurses who were, or are in the future, expressly hired for or transferred into permanent shifts shall be entitled, at their option, to remain in such shifts while employed in their unit and shall be scheduled exclusively for day, evening or night shifts.” The hospital is not proposing to change this provision. If the hospital develops a shortage of night nurses, evening nurses, day-night rotators or WIN Nurses, it will post those positions and recruit to fill them with nurses who want them.
